What is the difference between performance tasks and formative assessment? What is an example of each?
A formative assessment is am assessment of the students knowledge and understand along the way during a lesson plan. An example of this would be to ask the students to give you a thumbs up or thumbs down if they understand a certain topic that you have been discussing with them.
While a performance task is a task that you have your students complete at the end of the unit to make sire that they have a full understand of the whole over all "picturepicture/topic." An example of a performance task would be to have the students complete a poster board project over the topic and have them talk about certain areas to make sure that they have a complete understanding.
I like the poster assssment. That is a good and fun way to assess how well students understand what they are learning. Perfermoance tests were not near as fun when I was in school, it was write a paper or take a test. LOL. I like the formative assessments to keep track of student progress. I have seen teachers do this, but didn't realize it actually had a name.
ReplyDeleteI think I was reading up on some ideas when I ran across something similar to the post board performance task. I think it involved the posters being cycled through groups one step at a time and they add to each others. Sort of a duck duck goose concept. I think it's one of the way to get them interacting.
